I'll be frank, I always liked the idea behind Fiverr.com.
Just a couple clicks and a client can set an order using a freelancer based on a particular set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, but it comes at a cost. A big one.
That is only the couple freelance platforms at which buyers have been given free reign to abuse, threaten and blackmail sellers any way they like.
In this informative article, I'd like to share a new bad experience as a seller on Fiverr, and I decided to give up on the platform altogether.
How A Normal Order Quickly Turned Into A Hostage Situation
While I have been employing Fiverr myself (on and off) for a while, this particular experience relates to my girlfriend's account, not my own.
(I have been guiding her building up a reputable accounts, and how to go above and beyond every previous purchase. Everything stated is that her doing, I'm only an audience )
In cases like this, she had just gotten another $5 sequence on her logo gig, which seemed to be just like another... or so we believed.
The purchase was fulfilled in great time, and my buddy visit had even included a bonus logo concept as well as the source file (which is usually a part of the pricier package).
The customer"loved" among the concepts so we proceeded to deliver her the appropriates file sizes, as stated in the final description. Soon afterwards, things got a little bizarre.
The client came back requesting a social networking kit to choose the emblem, something which is obviously not offered as part of her post.
Against my advice, my buddy chose to provide the further job, although not getting paid any extra for this.
Following that, the customer responded with much more demands and some modifications to the social networking files.
At this point, she concurred enough was enough.
Despite every attempt to please this individual, they have been clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
That is when the customer went from only overstepping boundaries to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of carrying my girlfriend's Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took some time to contemplate a response and reach out to Fiverr support for help, the client did finally go right ahead and render a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to show her he/she was Is Fiverr.com really a scam? - Quora not kidding.
Soon after, while waiting on Fiverr's answer to the service question, the client paid an extra $10 to your social media kit.
Needless to say, the payment was accompanied by still another danger.
At this point, all I wanted to do was move all Liam Neeson and seek this individual down so that I could punch them from the face.
However, in the time, I still had hope that Fiverr support will step in and rescue my girlfriend out of that PITA client.
When the answer came from Fiverr service, they told her they could Fiverr Reviews - The Wisdom Journal not force the purchaser to accept the purchase.
Okay, that's fair enough. (Even though the buyer already accepted it, technically.)
In addition they suggested drawing up a listing for the purchaser to reveal the job was done in accordance with the gig prerequisites.
My girlfriend communicated in her first email the client was hoping to extort her to get free work out the agreed terms, by leaving a negative review if she did not comply.
Of course, it wasn't really about the job, it had been all about seeking protection in an abusive customer who had been intentionally pushing their luck.
Their reply didn't give either of us some assurance that Fiverr actually knew , and even in this point we felt as though they didn't need to get involved.
At precisely the exact same time, she also responded to the buyers latest threat, explaining that she would not continue to work with them unless the feedback had been changed/removed.
(Again, this can be feedback that has been clearly and blatantly made to bully her to providing work out the agreed provisions )
An honest petition by anyones standards, right?
Rather than acknowledge what the buyer had completed until this time, Fiverr instantly turned the tables in my girlfriend.
Turns out, she was the only breaking all of the rules.
Because she'd asked the client to modify their feedback, she was no longer entitled to some assistance from Fiverr assistance.
You can imagine how we both felt studying this.
Everything that the purchaser had done and said before her very last message has been now being swept under the carpet -- as if never happened in any way.
Fiverr essentially chose to support a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain on an accounts she'd worked so hard to build up.
If everything that happened was not upsetting enough, it's knowing that this person is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless sellers without a sprinkling of repercussion.
And think, there are plenty of buyers doing precisely this on Fiverr, knowing they could and will eliminate it.
Well, as all of this was happening, I did a little research to determine if some other vendors went through a similar ordeal with an individual buyer.
Very quickly, I found a variety of almost equal cases over the Fiverr forum outdated years ago. (that's right, decades.)
This is clearly something that's been going on for quite a while and it stems from giving buyers too much power over vendors.
When there's one thing I've learned about Fiverr, it's that customers are ALWAYS more valued than freelancers.
Regardless of how much time that you put into a job, or how hard you worked on it, or even how well you handled communication in a dispute, even if it really boils down to it... freelancers have little to no security.
Even when it's a clear cut situation in your favor, there's still every chance the client will come out on top. It takes it one little thing you"did wrong" in accordance with their terms of service and EVERYTHING else is disregarded
Looking at the evidence, it's obvious to me which Fiverr is well aware of what is going on, yet remains keen to settle back and let it happen.
A Last Message To Fiverr. If you're a decision maker at Fiverr and you are reading this, I urge you to seriously reconsider your present support processes for freelancers.
It's not right that someone can place all that time and effort into building up an account and over-delivering at every possible chance, just to be taken down by the very people you rely on to safeguard you.
Look, I really don't need to leave Fiverr. I really don't need to be telling folks to avoid your own platform.
But after everything that's happened, you have not left me any choice.
Until something is done in order to shield freelancers from this type of abuse, I will continue to spread this article and do anything I can to stop others from falling victim to your one-sided support staff.
The second you truly do something about this and provide freelancers a way to fight , I'll be happy to update the post.
